Water Conservation Measures are in Effect

Water Conservation Measures Underway

The City of San Benito has, effective immediately, joined with other South Texas communities in implementing mandatory water conservation measures as the result of current drought conditions, as requested by the International Boundary and Water Commission (IBWC).

Stage 2 of the City’s Water Conservation Ordinance is being followed in this process.

Stage 2 stipulates that no watering of grass, plants, gardens and similar vegetation is allowed between the hours of 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Outside of those hours, handheld hoses, buckets, drip irrigation and sprinkler systems are allowed.

Commercial nurseries, sod farms and similar establishments may water between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Washing personal vehicles is allowed using a hose with a shut-off nozzle, or a bucket not to exceed five gallons, between the hours of 6 p.m.-9 p.m.
