Texas nepotism law, found
in Government Code Chapter 573, prohibits public officials from hiring
or voting to appoint close relatives to paid positions. A
public official generally cannot appoint, confirm, or vote for a paid
appointment if the individual is their relative by blood (consanguinity)
within the third degree or by marriage (affinity) within the second
degree. Exceptions
exist for certain positions like substitute teachers, bus drivers, and
for individuals continuously employed before the official's election or
appointment.
