Budget Workshop Monday Aug. 11, 2014

RECAP Special Budget Workshop Meeting of the SBCC
                        Monday, August 11, 2014

3) Consideration and action on approval of the Rerate Notice to provide healthcare benefits for employees of the City of San Benito.

Quick summary:

Last month TML notified the City that the insurance rates were being increased by 7%.  Apparently there were a significant amount of insurance claims (stop-loss) and TML decided to increase the rates.

It was on the agenda for the City Commission last month and the Commission ordered the City Manager to go out for bids.

The CITY published a CITY OF SAN BENITO BID NOTICE on the San Benito News on the August 3 edition. "The City of San Benito is now accepting competitive sealed proposals on the following: Self Insured Medical Insurance FY 2014-2015.

It was announced at the Monday August 11, 2014 that there were no interest in submitting proposals by the insurance companies. The City Commission decided and voted UNANIMOUSLY to pass the extra $53,000 EXTRA employee insurance costs to the TAXPAYERS.

My question is "My insurance premium is also going up, who is going to pay my increase??"

On top of that, Commissioner Joe D. Gonzalez recommended that the City Manager crunch up some new budget numbers; one budget with a 3% to 5%  (if I heard correctly) salary increase and another budget with a  50 cents across the board salary increase.

The revised budgets will be presented to the City Commission at the next budget meeting for consideration.
