Public comments were made by supporters of the San Benito Rodeo. Mayor Joe practically promised them that the city would find a way for the rodeo to be held and sponsored by the City.
I am now officially off the Utility Board. I only served for two meetings and now Mayor Joe has decided to replace me with his right-hand man, Victor Garza. Commissioner Sanchez voted against the appointment and Commissioner Elliott abstained. Apparently, Joe was not pleased with me speaking out about the non-public forum designation of the Veterans Memorial. I feel so cheap and used. Oh well, I will get over it. But, I promise "I will not forget it!"
It is "Politics as Usual!" Even if you are qualified, don't bother to volunteer to serve your community unless you pass the "Loyalty Test".
The Commission approved the emergency purchase for two pumps for the Virginia Lift Stations that blew up at the same time. They are upgrading from a 20 hp to a 25 hp pump at both lift stations. No mention was made of the cost!
The Commission approved the option to purchase 12 police patrol cars at a cost of $20,516 per unit, $5000 add-ons per unit. Not included in the costs are the radio communications. That is being funded somewhere else. The year 2011 Crown Victoria units are being purchased from Philpot Ford in the Houston area. The down payment will be $65,000 with the rest being financed at 3.4% with City County Financial.
Apparently, they couldn't find a local dealer to find them year 2011 Crown Victorias.
It is rather hypocritical that when the budget was being discussed, Chief Gomez was informed there would be no money for new police cars. Later, after they publicly blamed him for the police cars not being ordered and demoted him, they miraculously found the funds to purchase new police vehicles.
The rest was boring stuff!
